DISTINCTIONS & INNOVATIONS
HOI is the highest volume provider of joint replacement in California and has held that distinction since 2011, according to the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD).
In 2013, U.S. News & World Report evaluated the performance of 1,650 hospitals specializing in orthopedics on key measures such as survival rates, patient safety, nursing excellence, advanced technologies and patient volumes. For the second consecutive year, Hoag orthopedics scored in the top 50 U.S. hospitals for outstanding orthopedic care.
Consumer Reports named HOI as one of 34 hospitals nationwide and five in California to receive its top rating for hip surgery; and 128 hospitals nationwide and eight in California for knee surgery in its first-ever look at how Medicare patients fare on orthopedic procedures.
Citing its national ranking for orthopedic care, Becker’s Hospital Review named Hoag and HOI in its 2013 “100 Great Hospitals in America” listing. In its most recent list of “60 Hospitals with Great Orthopedic Programs,” HOI was also named.
Skylight Healthcare Systems presented HOI with an “Excellence in Patient Safety in Clinical Care” award at its 7th annual Skylight conference in November 2013 for the Falls Prevention strategies. Patients indicate they will call a nurse before they get out of bed, and the team developed a video, posted on YouTube, for patients and families about risky behaviors and its “Please call, don’t fall” policy. International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM) was founded in 2012 to develop universal standards for outcomes measurements, beginning with four high-impact medical conditions, including low back pain. HOI CEO Dereesa Reid was featured in the July 2013 issue of Siemens Healthcare’s Medical Solutions as one of the first hospitals to put ICHOM’s ideas into practice.
HOI participates in the California Joint Replacement Registry (CJRR), a pilot statewide registry database to track and report long-term outcomes of patients undergoing joint replacement surgery. The CJRR was created to meet the need for comprehensive, scientific assessment of devices and clinical approaches influencing hip and knee replacement outcomes, as well as direct feedback from patients on their functional outcomes.
