HOI collaborated with McKesson and Aetna to pilot the first automated implementation of Integrated Healthcare Associations (IHA’s) bundled payment model. The bundling system began in 2012 with knee replacement surgeries, and has generated strong interest from employers, patients, payers and providers. When the pilot was completed in September 2013, HOI had the highest number of episodes among hospitals in the IHA pilot program.
Designated as a Blue Distinction Center for high-quality Knee and Hip Replacement by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California.
HOI has sustained its efforts that led to the hospital receiving a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) Silver Certification from the United States Green Building Council for its environmentally friendly design.
Scores for HOI from the leading nationally recognized expert in patient feedback and satisfaction, Press Ganey, were in the top one percent for “Willingness to Recommend.”
In 2013, HOI became a California Hospital Patient Safety Organization (CHPSO) member. As a leader in the analysis, dissemination and archiving of patient safety information, CHPSO identifies clinical patterns that cause medical errors; develops and conveys best practices; and shares lessons learned. CHPSO’s vision is for its members to lead the nation in providing the safest and highest quality health care.
In December 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released 2009 to 2012 readmissions and complications data on hip and knee replacement surgeries nationwide. The data shows 19 out of 20 hospitals are “average,” with 95 are “worse” than average. HOI is one of 97 hospitals Medicare identifies as having “better” than average outcomes for both procedures.
