Patient Safety
HOI is committed to our strategic plan to deliver safe and effective patient-centered care and was founded on a culture of safety with a goal of zero preventable harm. We value our patients and their family’s perspectives to optimize the patient’s individual clinical outcome.
HOI’s Patient Safety model incorporates a “Just Culture” in concert with monitoring our patient safety data and outcomes. HOI physicians, staff, patients and visitors are encouraged to report safety-related information for performance improvement. We also formalized the Patient and Family Advisory Council which allows us to include community input into HOI’s safety improvement initiatives.
Patient safety, patient experience, workforce experience, and well-being are all tied together by a hospital’s culture of safety. According to the American Hospital Association’s Insights Report, created in collaboration with Press Ganey, the single largest driver of a patient’s reported experience of care is how well their care team members work together. Better teamwork has long been shown to drive better outcomes.
Our most recent HOI safety culture survey showed a score of 4.47, ranking at the 98th percentile per the Press Ganey database, which includes survey data from over 1 million hospital staff members. HOI’s inpatient experience score of “Likelihood to Recommend” was at 95% in 2024, ranking at the 99th percentile in the Press Ganey database.
A strong safety culture supports the teams through the demanding tasks associated with care delivery and makes a noticeable difference in how patients experience their care, leading to safer care and a more resilient care delivery system.
