CLINICAL OUTCOMES AND INFECTION PREVENTION CONTINUED
ULTRAVIOLET (UV) DISINFECTION
When HOI introduced greater Orange County’s rst ultraviolet Germ Zapping RobotTM in 2014, the mobile technology quickly became indispensable for maintaining a clean and safe patient care environment. Numerous studies now show that hospitals using the robot have fewer infections, with Xenex 20 times more effective than standard disinfection practices.
Once an area is manually cleaned, Xenex is activated. It disperses UV light on every inch of

surrounding surfaces, from high-touch areas to hard-to-clean places, to destroy bacteria and microorganisms that could cause life-threatening infections.
HOI has since invested in a second-generation Xenex. Each evening, it is used by an Environmental Services (EVS) professional in all operating suites and other patient care areas.
