ORTHOPEDIC EDUCATION AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE LEADERSHIP Q & A
I also envision that through synergistic research, we will not only elevate orthopedic excellence; we can help other subspecialties, such as cardiovascular and oncology care, to benefit from discoveries that can apply in their disciplines.
Learning opportunities specific to physicians, other professionals within the orthopedic care spectrum and the community will be provided. We’re pleased to be offering ancillary professionals and the community educational opportunities on a range
of musculoskeletal topics.
Dr. Patzakis: I joined HOI to help develop and facilitate a first-class fellowship, education and research program. It is an exciting and critically important undertaking to train the orthopedic leaders of tomorrow.
We’ve tied HOI’s education and research initiatives to its performance improvement efforts. HOI orthopedic surgeons have unified to drive excellent care through vetting processes that find the
best clinical algorithms based on literature and considerable personal experience. For instance, we explored the best way to control pain after total knee replacement. From the half-dozen methods evaluated by top-notch surgeons, we discovered the best practice and published these findings to share them with the entire orthopedic community.

What is your vision for OERI?
Dr. Prietto: As a high-functioning orthopedic
team, we have a responsibility to participate
in education, research and outreach. The Orthopedic Education & Research Institute is
the vehicle through which funds can be raised
to teach orthopedic surgeons and ancillary providers, educate the community and do clinical research. A collaborative culture makes us better than the sum of our parts and empowers our education and research endeavors.
