OUR VISION
WE WILL BE THE TRUSTED LEADER IN ORTHOPEDIC CARE AND MEDICINE, RECOGNIZED NATIONALLY FOR OUR SUPERIOR CLINICAL OUTCOMES, INNOVATION AND PATIENT VALUE.
PRESENTING THE 2014 ANNUAL OUTCOMES REPORT
In its third year of operations, Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI) became one of the nation’s best healthcare success stories for 2013. We are pleased to share how we attained and sustained such success in the following pages of this report.
Our achievements in patient safety, patient satisfaction and growth initiatives have propelled HOI
to become the highest volume provider of orthopedic services in California, and to be ranked as one of the nation’s top performing hospitals, both for the second consecutive year. Among the many strides made during the past year was an astounding 50 percent reduction in the readmission rate, and patient satisfaction rates among the top one percent in the U.S. To make this happen, we became early adopters of the latest technology and, even more importantly, we nurture a culture of excellence. We partner with high-quality physicians, surgeons and hospital staff. Our shared governance is exemplified by multidisciplinary performance teams. These teams empower staff to bring organization-wide agreement on practices which safeguard patients and exceed expectations in delivering medical services.
We have made it our ongoing cultural commitment for the HOI family to operate as a reliable organization, consistently executing with a high degree of quality and safety. We are focused on achieving zero quality failures and using process improvement tools to their maximum potential. HOI team members have been trained in the Lean Six Sigma approach to optimize day-to-day business and clinical operations. Physicians, nursing staff and other members of the clinical team have undergone “crew training” to improve team-based problem solving and decision-making skills.
To drive leading innovation for future patients needing musculoskeletal care, we have instituted robust research and education programs for physicians and staff. We have focused our efforts on measuring outcomes and driving performance improvement. We believe in transparency. This data is shared with referring physicians and individuals who can thus make better-informed decisions for their orthopedic health.
Thank you for your interest in our 2014 Annual Outcomes Report. We appreciate the opportunity to share our best practices and to be your trusted partners for orthopedic excellence.
Sincerely,
Robert S. Gorab, MD Dereesa Reid, MBA
