 PATIENT EXPERIENCE
In addition to tracking clinical and functional outcomes, examining patients’ perceptions on how well their preferences, needs, and values are met completes the quality of care picture. Again in 2018, actively listening to patients share about their experiences and encounters, and responding to their feedback, culminated in HOI earning the highest possible, Five-Star Patient Experience rating from CMS on its Hospital-Compare website. Data for this rating was derived from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient satisfaction survey required by CMS for all hospitals in the nation. Examples of patient experience metrics captured
include perspectives regarding:
1) timeliness of care provided,
2) cleanliness of the facility, and
3) communication with health care providers.
In 2018, surveys assessing patients’ views were closely examined to ensure sustained satisfaction and to identify areas for improvement. Among inpatients surveyed, 95 percent would definitely recommend HOI to friends and family.
Among hospital outpatients surveyed, 94 percent having a procedure said they would definitely recommend HOI for outpatient surgical care.
