HOI serves as a founding sponsor for and participant in the International Consortium for Healthcare Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), which has developed an international standard set of patient-centric outcome measures.

A Harvard Business Case Study “Hoag Orthopedic Institute” examining value-driven health care was republished in 2015 for Harvard Business School health care executive scholars.
HOI was one of three hospitals selected by the California Joint Replacement Registry to pilot a statewide registry database for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery tracking long-term patient outcomes. HOI is the largest data contributor to the California Joint Replacement Registry (CJRR).
HOI was designated as an Aetna Institute of Quality® Orthopedic Care Facility for total joint replacement and spine surgery for 2011-2012.
Blue Distinction Center for High Quality Knee and Hip Replacement in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 by Blue Cross Blue Shield Association
HOI collaborated with McKesson and Aetna to create the  rst automated implementation of Integrated Healthcare Association’s (IHA’s) bundled payment model, designed to decrease health care costs by improving practices and standardizing care. This model is the  rst of its kind
in California and one of the  rst in the nation. The bundling system, which began in 2012 with knee replacements and now includes hip replacement surgeries, has created a new level of accountability and transparency in medical care.
